[SOLVED] Finding and deleting Inodes

[SOLVED] Finding and deleting Inodes, 5.0 out of 5 based on 1 rating

Sometimes it happens that you have enough free space, but running out of Inodes.

I faced the issue especially on Debian with the Session-Files of PHP in /var/lib/php5.

Use the following command to display all Directories using a lot of Inodes:

find / -xdev -printf '%h\n' | sort | uniq -c | sort -k 1 -n

This command lists all Directories and on bottom you’ll find the most used Inodes.

If too much files are existing in folder you cannot simply use rm for deletion. So better let’s find those files and delete them one by one:

find /var/lib/php5 -type f -name "sess_*" -ctime +30 -delete
